Today was a very busy day.
We got up early as we were headed up to Prince Albert, 80kms north of
Leask. We drove around and looked at the sights, went into an antique store and
picked up a few things.
At the tourist info centre, I also picked up a patch, as
this was Saskatchewan Air Centennial.
Another cousin, whom I had not met before, Maynard, works up
in a mining camp in the North and works week in/week out. We met him for lunch
as he was coming in from work. He also
lives North East of Prince Albert.
Maynard will be the last of the cousins I will meet this
time. The other two, Wayne and Kevin I might meet at a later time. It sure is
cool meeting cousins, talking about the things they did growing up on a farm
and different lives they have all chosen, even though they mostly moved away
all except two have moved back into the area – well within a 100 miles anyhow.
After we left Prince Albert, we headed south, stopped at a
place called Parkside. There they have a
very large lily statue.
Then onward past Leask and to a place called Mayfair. There they have a very interesting phenomenon
with aspen trees. This place is called
“The Crooked Bush”. The grove of aspen trees is a botanical mystery. As one walks into the “Bush”, you can see
that the trees have twisted, turned and lovingly embraced one another from the
ground, in clumps along the path. There
is no fence around the “Bush” and the local cattle will not enter.
This was a very long day, again many miles on dirt road, but
at least it wasn’t raining. We travelled
a total distance of approx. 400 kms today.
After making a few phone calls, our plans were changed a
little. Kevin who owns a BB in Saskatoon
will not be home till Monday, so we have decided to spend a little extra time
with my aunt. We will also be going to
North Battleford to meet some friends who have moved there – Bob and Brenda
Zurowski.
