Before we left this morning, I installed Streets and Trips on Donna’s computer, for them to try to see if they like it.  I showed them a number of nice features it has, we like it but then we have been using it for almost 7 years.

As always, having met new people or seeing old friends, it is always hard to say goodbye.  Our stay was pleasant, and the hosts were awesome, thanks Donna and Terry.

The first leg of our drive to Canada, is from Overton, Nv to Provo Ut, and it was very picturesque.  We climbed to about 6800 ft then came back down to 4800 ft elevation.

For tonight we are staying at the Walmart in Springville just south of Provo.

Special People today – Jerry Neitch, an old time friend whom she does not see often, but when they get together, it was just like old times.

Another relaxing day today.

We headed out this am to the Wildlife Management Reserve just outside of town, but we never saw any wildlife, and we did not drive down all of the roads because the roads were so soft with the sand.

Terry came home from work early today, so we could spend some time working on his coach and doing some computer things.  We set up the inverters so they would turn on, then I gave him some excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Street and Trips to try.  I showed both Donna and Terry how to use them.

While I was busy with Terry and Donna, Vadie made dinner, and as usual she did a wonderful job.  We had pork roast cooked with apples/apple juice/onions and beef broth, asparagus, a spinach/strawberry salad, potatoes, then for dessert, raspberry shortcake – delicious and yummy all rolled into one.

The coach is all packed up, and ready to hit the road, for three days of open road to hit the Canadian border.  After this long stint, we are finally heading home with a few detours.

Special People today – thinking of Eloise Rinas, and her family, to help them all cope with the loss of their  husband/dad/grandfather and uncle.  Eric passed away last night after a short bout of cancer.

A relaxing day today.

The bus and car was cleaned, laundry was done and some general housekeeping.

We had to do some grocery shopping which we did also.

In the afternoon we went to the Lost City Museum.  This city was lost when Lake Mead was made larger due to the flooding for the Hoover Dam.

Remains of factory left underwater after flooding

Much of the artifacts were divided between museums and the universities  but as the water came up the city was lost. In 2003 during record lows of the lake, parts of the city could be recovered again, and more artifacts were retrieved.

Reconstruction of city, outside the museum.

For dinner we had spaghetti, salad and bread, another yummy meal.  I am really going to have to hit the gym when I get back to work.

Special People today – thinking of Eric Rinas, and his family, to help them all cope with the cancer he has.  God Bless you Eric, hope for a speedy recovery.

Our big day today, did not quite pan out like we had envisioned, but we had fun and interesting time nevertheless.

We travelled Hwy 169 along Lake Mead to the Hoover Dam.  This was a very nice road, easily travelled by car or RV, and very scenic.
 nice road
 very colorful

Lake Mead - approx 120 feet below normal - due to construction of waterway to Las Vegas

Once we got to the Hoover Dam, before lunch, the crowds were immense.  We were told that this is because of school break.  We travelled down to the dam, the first two parking lots were full, and they said we would have to park on the other side, so we drove across the dam.  The next parking lot was full, and the next, and the next, by this time we were almost 2 miles from the visitors site, so we turned around and headed back up towards the bridge, we were going to do the bridge walk.  When we got to the parking lot, there were police there, and they motioned to keep going.  As we were heading into Boulder City, other police, ambulance, fire trucks etc. came screaming by us, and the locals knew, no smoke, so it was another jumper, sadly it was.
So with all of this going on, we did not make it to the Hoover Dam tour.

As we were going through yesterday, we noticed there was a steam train and model train advertisement.  We went to it today, steam train is closed for the winter (what  winter), and the model train set was being set up outside for a big extravaganza on April 6, 7 and 8.

So not having seen much except lots of beautiful scenery, we decided to head to the coach.  We took a different way home, and headed through the Valley of Fire State Park.  Again lots of beautiful scenery, and interesting how the rock has been carved over the years. The color of the rock is especially interesting.

As we got home late, Donna and Terry had worked all day, we decided to get Chinese food from the local restaurant. It was delicious.

In the evening we showed them some pics of animals and the 1984 FC.

Special People Today – AZ Bird Group – as with other groups of Bird owners, we were welcomed quickly into the fold.  We spent time with them at Quartzite, White Tank and through them with Fred and Wendy as now with Donna and Terry.  Just remember, when you come north, make a point to stop or at least give us a call.
