March 1st, 2013 – Yuma Az Weather – lo 52/hi 78 clear
Total Kilometers this trip -

This morning we got up early so we
could go see Slab City and Salvation Mountain.
We had anticipated that we would go do that one day, but also see Kevin
and Joanni in El Centro. Unfortunately,
we did not get a call from them, so off we went.
We took a ride up to Nilan, Ca.
(Slab City and Salvation Mountain) then went around the Salton Sea.
At Brawley there is an industrial place, not sure, but very interesting what is written on the tank.
All the way around the Salton Sea it is below sea level, the lowest we went was -201.
Definitely Slab City and Salvation Mountain
is something to see.
Slab City -
we are there
very colorful
and artistic
for all the sinners
truck going nowhere, lots of popcans

Salvation Mountain -

SALVATION MOUNTAIN
As we drove around the Salton Sea
we stopped off at Bombay Beach, Salton Sea, State Recreation Area.
Although there was a lot of construction
going on in the larger towns and cities, these small places lie in squalor, and
I am sure many live below the poverty line.
derelict buildings
old buildings/trailers and more derelict trailers
We continued on up to Mecca, the
northern part of the Salton Sea, then headed south to Brawley and home.
On Hwy 8 heading east, we saw a few
restored vehicles that will be in the car show tomorrow, might have to stay
another day to go to the car show.
Special people today – Shelley Price and her three children – a
friend of Vadie’s who lives in Aldergrove BC.
She always finds time to visit us whenever we are in the Valley. Her children like to challenge me at the Wii
game.
